Birdhouses on the fence.

Several blog posts ago.... I showed you my birdhouses that had painted. I had planned on mounting them on post and sticking them in the ground. But after looking at the wonderful blogs in blogland, I came upon a blog that had birdhouses on the fence. I can't remember what blog I saw it on, but I thought it was a great idea. So WhaaaLa, here we have my attempt.

I also have painted on a metal bucket with Folkart Outdoor paint. I painted this metal pot last year, and it still looks as good as the day I painted it.

Week 4 Saturday Centus

Hear is my hand again at the Saturday Centus prompt from Jenny Matlock. I find it quite fun writing and reading others short stories.

WEEK 4 PROMPT
“May I help you, miss? You look puzzled.”

Mmmm… thank you, I’m just looking for my father. We came in together a moment ago, but he seems to have wandered off.”

I quickly glanced around the room to take in the scenery . Just as I expected... lovely in every way. Ivy grew up the cream colored, brick walls. White Christmas lights were weaved in it to give off a beautiful glow. The tables were dressed in white linens and very expensive china. Six antique chairs patiently waited around each table for the guest as they started to come through the door.

I stepped to the side as the laughing and excited crowd came through. I wish I could say I was feeling the same excitement. But my heart was broken, torn into many tiny pieces.

They had arrived and of course, there she was in the Vera Wang wedding dress that should have been mine!

I took a deep breath and was about to start toward the happy couple when ...

“May I help you, miss? You look puzzled.”

“Mmmm… thank you, I’m just looking for my father. We came in together a moment ago, but he seems to have wandered off.”

MY first win from a giveaway... and garage sale find.....

My first Giveaway that I won. Thank you Vanessa at The Sew*er, The Caker, and the CopyCat Maker. I just love it. It will find a place in my kitchen soon.

A couple of weeks ago, I found a basket and some bottles at a garage sale. I have now found a place for the basket in my yard. I used a coconut liner to go inside the basket. I then added dirt and plants and Waaa La!!! I have a great planter for my flowers. So very cute!!!

School's out for the Summer!!!!

Today was the last day of school. My baby graduated from Pre-Kindergarten. She had a fantastic year with great teachers. She is so ready for Kindergarten.

Daniel graduated from Kindergarten yesterday. He was so handsome up on stage. I can't even think about Daniel graduating from high school in 12 years. Daniel will have the same 1st grade teacher next year as I did when I was in 1st grade. Yikes... I can't believe she is still teaching after all this time. I wonder how many kids have come through that she has taught their parents. She is a great teacher! She is so mellow compared to when I was in school. That was the only time I got in trouble and had to stand out in the hall. I hope Daniel minds his P's and Q's, or he may fall in his mom's footsteps. Heehee....

Week 3 for Saturday Centus

Jenny Matlock

After several attempts at trying to write something to go with this week's prompt, I finally came up with an idea that I liked. The prompt is written in black.

My feet were killing me as I ran along the river bank. I hate camping and especially when it has been raining for days. But my best friend was back at camp needing medical attention for a cut he received from climbing a mountain yesterday. Infection had set into his leg where the cut is, and he is unable to walk. So at this moment, I'm wishing I had never came along on this little adventure.

As I'm running, the water seemed to be flowing faster down river. Something felt strange in the air. I couldn't make out what it was.
I looked back over my shoulder, squinting into the late afternoon sun, gawking with stunned alarm at the broad rolling muddy waters of the Mississippi. "Oh my gosh!" I screamed hoping for a miracle at that very moment.

One More Week.....

One More Week of school left. I'm so ready for a break, and I'm sure the kids are as well. Now, I need to have a plan for this summer for my own kids. Because a couple of weeks into summer, they are going to be bored and wanting something to do.

One thing we have planned is to spend some quality time in the gym practicing free throws. My son is playing AAU basketball, and his free throws are a little lacking in form...

We will have to spend sometime at the library every week.

With it getting warmer, we will have to find a swimming hole.

If you have any other great ideas, drop me a note and little me know. I want to keep them busy and happy. Happy kids = Happy mom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My First Award!!!!!!

What a great surprise I got when I came to my blog today. Brittney's Budget Crafts gave me this great award. I'm not the best blogger out there, but I'm learning. I've been trying to make it as great as many of the ones I've been seeing. So I feel honored that Brittney thought my blog should receive this award. Everyone needs to check out Brittney's Budget Crafts. She has a wonderful blog full of crafts for baby showers, little girls, little boys, and even giving old furniture a new look. Check it out when you get a chance.

Rules of receiving this award:
1. Thank the person who gave you this award

2. Share 7 things about yourself.

3. Pass the award along to 15 bloggers who you have recently discovered and who you think are fantastic! (in no particular order...)

4. Contact the bloggers you've picked and let them know about the award.

Here we go:

7 things about Me...

1. God is an important factor in my life. I know that the things and blessings I have are all because of him.

2. I have a wonderful family. My husband is Noah, and we will be married 8 years this June. Boy, has time flew by..... I also have 3 AWESOME kids. Bryce is my oldest. He is tall and athletic. I'm hoping for a basketball star out of him... we'll see... :) Next is Daniel. The sweetest and kindest little guy that you could ever wish for. But don't get me wrong, he has his moments. Last is my beautiful baby girl ... Mollie Kate... She is Miss. Little Drama Queen.. But hey, I think we all have been that way. Mollie and Daniel are 11 months apart. They are the best of friends.. so much like twins. I also have a great mother. I thank God for allowing me to have wonderful parents. My dad is no longer with us, but I know he is in a much better place. I hope to see him again one day in Heaven!

3. I'm a school teacher. I love it. Don't get me wrong, some days I'm wishing for another profession, but for most of the days... I feel blessed to get to teach and share my knowledge with our young people. I teach Language Arts to 4th, 5th, and 6th graders.

4. I love to paint and craft. I have been painting for quite some time. Donna Dewberry is who I would love to paint like. I was lucky enough to get to see her in person and take a class from her.

5. I need to lose weight. I think about going on a diet all the time. But can never motivate myself to do it. My husband is planning on doing this weight loss program in a couple of weeks and maybe I will join him. I would like to be the Biggest Loser!!!!!

6. I love to read a good book. My favorite authors are Stephenie Meyers, Debbie Macomber, and James Patterson. I loved the Twilight series... I'm hoping Mrs. Meyers will write something else soon. I wish I could write great books like the ones above. Maybe one day I will...

7. The last thing... Hmmmmm .... I'm a cheerleading sponsor for a Jr. High squad. I'm really excited about next year. I think I have a great bunch of girls. Go Bobcats......

That is just a few things about me... Now I'm off to see who I can find for this great award... I have lots of places in mind...

Thanks again, Brittney!!!!!!

Artist clipboard

I was out and about, checking out a few garage sales one day and came upon this artist clipboard. I knew the girl that was having the garage sale. She told me I needed it because I liked to paint. I bought it for a dollar, and it has been sitting in a closet for some time. I painted it black because it was in not so good of shape. Yesterday, I thought it was time to do something with it. It is not quite what I was thinking about, but I think it turned out pretty good.

I thought I could use it for holding a cookbook when I'm making a recipe. Or I could hang my grocery list on it. Or put my weeks menu on it. Or use it for decoration. The list is endless with what I can do with it. I chose chickens on it because they are all over my kitchen.

Chasing the Man Who Had Her Heart

Jenny Matlock

As a writing teacher, this should be fun.... (I'm a 4th grade writing teacher.. so I have to get out of that young way of thinking mode)

This post is linked to Saturday Centus Week 2. A 100 word story based on a prompt. The prompt is in bold below.

The small Cessna 172 picked up speed as it roared down the runway, Sara at the controls, the flight instructor beside her.

Her heart was pounding, and her hands were unsteady. Why was she doing this? She had nothing to prove. But in the back of her mind, she could only think of one thing... Noah.

He had been on her mind ever since he left for that small town in Alaska. Her heart had been broken. She needed an excuse of why she was following him. How to get close to him without him knowing that she was madly in love with him.

So here she was, as she closed her eyes and pulled back on the controls to take flight.

Garage Sale Finds

Look at these Great Finds in the basket that I found at a garage sale today. I wasn't planning on going to any garage sales today because I am heading out in the morning with our school band to go to San Antonio. I'm not looking forward to the ride on a yellow dog (school bus).

So what to do with these jars. The big one is so neat. I have a thing for jars. I use them at home and in my classroom. What shall I do with these.... check back to find out.

Ribbon Capri's

Mollie had this pair of Old Navy jeans that were way to long on her but fit good every where else. So I decided I would cut them off and make capri's. I cut off the length that I wanted the jeans to be at.

I wanted them to be cute so I decided on putting ribbon around the hem. I made a simple hem first before adding the ribbon. While I was pinning the ribbon on, my kids were hanging right over me. You've got to love them.

Didn't they turn out sooooooo cute!!! I forgot to take a picture of the ric rack that I used around to cover up the thread from the hem.

You can see the ric rack in the back ground behind the shirt. I wanted the shirt to match the pants, so I made a flower out of the ribbon. In the other picture is my munchkin. She was cold because the wind was blowing and this was the best picture I got of the outfit.

Bloom Where You're Planted

A little garden art added to my front flower bed. So far I just have some hollyhocks that have came up. Planted zinnias and a few other kinds of seeds I through out. So until the color comes in, I have my colorful sign.

I got this idea out of a Mary Engelbreit book. I painted my post first with outdoor paint. I have been waiting several days for my husband to buy a bit for his drill so he could screw my sign to the post. However, he still has not got the part, so I decided I would use a nail. Hope our West Texas winds don't blow it off the post.
